What to wear to Angkor Wat

Cover your shoulders and knees. Choose light clothes you can walk in. Angkor is a living sacred site, and a little preparation lets you arrive with care.

Cover shoulders and knees

APSARA’s visitor code prohibits bare shoulders and shorts or skirts above the knees in sacred places. A shirt with sleeves and trousers or a skirt that covers your knees are a simple choice. Dress respectfully throughout your visit.

Keep your clothes light

Choose breathable clothing that lets you move comfortably. A loose shirt and light trousers can give you coverage without heavy layers. Try your outfit before you leave: you should be able to sit, bend and walk easily.

Choose comfortable shoes

Wear shoes you already know are comfortable, with a secure fit and a sole that grips. Be mindful of your steps and follow signs around restricted areas. Do not climb on loose stones.

Pack a small bag

Bring water, sun protection and only what you want to carry. Keep your belongings close and take your litter away with you. Avoid touching or climbing temple structures.

Give the place your attention

Keep your voice calm around worshippers and monks. Ask before taking someone’s photograph, and respect the signs and staff guidance at each temple.

Before you go

Read APSARA’s visitor guidance and the official visitor code of conduct. Rules and access arrangements can change; follow the current instructions on site. For help planning your day from Siem Reap, talk to our team.
